Cognition Delay is a duo of US artist Jeremy Rice (Abdicant, Curious Inversions) and UK artist Paul Alexander (Pandacetamol, Fluffy Inside). As Kahvi Collective label mates, both admired each other's contrasting styles of music, and felt compelled to collaborate.

Jeremy as Abdicant & Curious Inversions has released ambient albums on Kahvi Collective. Paul as Pandacetamol has released a number of psychedelic downtempo albums on Rednetic, Kahvi Collective, and Liquid Sky Berlin, as well as collaborations with 4T Thieves. He also records his own unique brand of dark driving acid techno under the moniker Fluffy Inside. Releasing several EPs and remixes on Ghost Program Records and Acid 606-61.

Strange Sedatives came about in a frenzy of back-and-forth tracks: one would lay out some ideas, the other would take those ideas and fold them into something completely perpendicular to the original. Abstract ambient tracks turned into techno, beat-driven tracks shed their skin to become abstract. Before long, it became clear that the output was a collection of tracks that would form an album.
